Scholarship Overview

The Diploma of Business (Governance) is Australia's only currently approved diploma-level governance qualification. This qualification is recognised nationally and will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to sit on or work with boards at the highest level.

For too long, not-for-profit board members and their supporters have put up with a second-rate reputation and second-rate education. That's set to change.

The content for the Diploma of Business (Governance) has been contextualised by the Institute of Community Directors Australia, an Our Community enterprise, and is delivered in partnership with a leading educator based in Victoria but delivering courses nation-wide.

Who Should Apply:

The course is designed specifically for Australian not-for-profit board/committee members, and the CEOs, managers and senior staff who work alongside them. Both prospective and current members of boards are eligible for enrolment, though some deep knowledge of a not-for-profit organisation is highly desirable.

To be accepted for enrolment into this course, you must also:

• Have time to read, prepare and reflect on fundamental governance principles
• Have the ability to attend and actively participate in a total of five days of training (three consecutive days + two consecutive days approximately one month later)
• Commit to completing all competency based assessment within six months of face-to-face training (expected requirement is five to 10 hours per unit - 12 units)
• Commit to transferring the knowledge gained to the organisation once the course is completed

COURSE DATES / TIME: 

The course comprises two face-to-face components (three days and then two days), separated by approximately one month.

The Diploma of Business (Governance) course will take place in Perth and successful applicants will have the option of attending on either of the following course dates in 2019:

• OPTION ONE: 
  • Session One: 20 - 22 May 2019 (3 days)
  • Session Two: 17 - 18 June 2019 (2 days)

• OPTION TWO:
  • Session One: 29 - 31 July 2019 (3 days)
  • Session Two: 26 - 27 August 2019 (2 days)

LOCATION:  

• The course is run at various venues. One week prior to commencement, scholarship recipients will receive an email reminder confirming all the details of the course, including venue, times, catering details and links to pre-reading material, presentations, workbooks and assessments

Scholarship Inclusions:

There are 10x 100% scholarships available to those living in WA and working for not-for-profit organisations in Western Australia. The scholarships are valued at $4,495 and cover all associated course fees.

Travel and/or accommodation (if necessary) is to be covered by the successful candidates or their NFP organisation.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must:

• live in WA and work for a charitable not-for-profit organisation based in Western Australia
• be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident
• fulfill ASF's general eligibility requirements available on our FAQs page

Your employing organisation must:

• be an ACNC registered charity or NFP incorporated association
• provide a program or service that supports people living in Western Australia
• not support activities that could be considered discriminatory, political, or religious advocacy or activism in any way

Indigenous Australians are encouraged to apply.

Scholar Surveys:

All applicants (regardless of the outcome of their application) may be asked to complete a series of surveys about their expected and realised learnings (once before and on a few occasions after the course). Your survey responses will help us to quantify the impact of our scholarships and will help attract funding for education and training for the NFP sector in the future. Your feedback is extremely valuable to the work we do and by completing these surveys you'll be making an important contribution to the future of ASF and the NFP sector overall.
