Kaplan Business School - Master of Business Administration Scholarships 2020

Kaplan Business School supports the ASF initiative to enhance the management and accountability of charitable not-for-profit organisations by partnering with us to offer ten 100% MBA scholarships to not-for-profit staff Australia-wide in 2020.

Program Overview

A Master of Business Administration (MBA) is widely regarded as the preferred qualification for professionals wanting to pursue a career in strategic management. An MBA can advance your career, expand your professional network, offer higher earning potential and provide you with the skills you need to lead.

Kaplan Business School’s MBA will provide you with valuable practical skills that will allow you to excel in a dynamic and ever-changing professional environment and to become a successful leader. Benefit from the flexibility and diversity of a general Master of Business Administration or choose one of seven specialisations:

Upon completion of the degree, graduates are able to:

  • Apply knowledge related to fundamental business processes to make effective and well-reasoned business decisions in a global context;
  • Implement strategic thinking to address business issues and opportunities in dynamic environments;
  • Demonstrate the leadership necessary to accomplish business goals and maximise organisational performance;
  • Evaluate the ethical and social implications of business decisions from an international perspective.

"As a mum of young children, along with living rurally and after spending 4 years as a PhD student, the dream of being able to afford to do an MBA was at least a decade away for me. Following my PhD, I was recruited to the Board of a not-for-profit rural organisation, and it became clear there was a need for rural women, like me, to upskill with MBA knowledge. Receiving the ASF scholarship has made this dream come true."

Laura Alston, Board Director at Women's Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West

"We do important work and delivering on our mission takes more than passion and commitment alone. I am finding the course to be relevant and challenging (in a positive way). The MBA has given me a depth of insight into what factors are important in leadership and it has helped me keep our organisation strong and thriving, when people need us most."

Monique Williamson, CEO at Mental Illness Fellowship of WA Inc

Eligibility Requirements

Scholarship applicants must:

  • be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident
  • fulfil ASF's general eligibility requirements available on our FAQs page
  • currently work* for an Australian charitable not-for-profit organisation
  • fulfil the MBA program entry requirements, as detailed below

MBA Entry Requirements:

  • An Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent)**

*Part-time employees are also eligible to apply. In addition, Board Directors are eligible to apply, however where two or more applicants are considered to be of equal standard, preference may be given to not-for-profit employees (including Executive Board Members).

**If you're unable to meet this criterion but have substantial professional experience, you may be eligible for a scholarship by first applying for Mature age entry. Please contact ASF before you apply for a scholarship and well in advance of the application deadline to find out more.

You can find further information about entry to KBS, including information for mature age students, on their Domestic Entry Requirements page.

Shortlisted Applicants:

If you are shortlisted for this scholarship you will be asked to provide a certified copy of your academic transcripts and certificates. Only shortlisted applicants will be required to complete this step.

Selection Criteria:

The scholarships are awarded jointly by ASF and Kaplan Business School to applicants whose completion of the program would, in their view, benefit their employing NFP organisation. Selection is conditional on the applicant meeting the eligibility requirements including KBS' entry requirements for the nominated program and written endorsement from the respective charitable organisation.

"I have already gotten more from the course than I had hoped. Whilst the academic knowledge is incredibly useful, it is the way in which we are encouraged to reflect on the personal and professional use of the learnings that has been so invaluable. It is no stretch to say that if it wasn’t for ASF and KBS providing such a generous scholarship, I would not have been able to enrol in this MBA."

Nikki Jordan, Strategic Coordinator at Primary Mental Health Services, Grand Pacific Health Limited

Scholar Surveys & Feedback

All applicants (regardless of the outcome of their application) will be asked to complete a series of surveys about their expected and realised learnings (once before and on a few occasions after the course). Your survey responses will help us to quantify the impact of our scholarships and will help attract funding for education and training for the NFP sector in the future. Scholarship recipients may also be asked to supply a short testimonial or Scholar Profile during or after the completion of their studies. This feedback is extremely valuable to the work we do and by participating in surveys / testimonials you'll be making an important contribution to the future of ASF and the NFP sector overall.
