Governance Institute - Not-for-Profit Financial Management (WA intake) - May or September 2019

The Bankwest Foundation and the Governance Institute support the ASF initiative to enhance the management and accountability of not-for-profit organisations by generously offering 4x fully funded scholarships for those living in WA and working for not-for-profit organisations in Western Australia to attend the Not-for-Profit Financial Management short course in May or September 2019.

Scholarship Overview

 

Not-for-Profit Financial Management is a practical half-day course providing an overview of financial reporting, tax and auditing requirements of organisations in the not-for-profit (NFP) sector. It will help you:

  • consider financial reports and your organisation’s legal requirements
  • examine the types of reports which should be provided to the board
  • reflect on the financial and non-financial metrics which provide knowledge about organisational performance
  • assess the board’s responsibilities with regard to reporting against legislative and funding (grants and partnership) requirements.

 

Who Should Attend:


This course is ideal for secretaries, treasurers, officers, board and committee members keen to increase their financial understanding of their NFP organisation. It develops the ability to read and relate critically on financial statements and board reports as well as addressing detailed compliance issues.

Scholarships are available to WA-based board members and senior professionals of charitable not-for-profit organisations who meet agreed selection criteria.

 

COURSE DATES / TIME:  

  • Wednesday 15 May 2019 from 9am to 12:30pm AWST OR
  • Wednesday 11 September 2019 from 9am to 12:30pm AWST OR
  • Online delivery (21-day access course recordings and subject materials)

 

LOCATION: Governance Institute, Ground Floor, 8 Victoria Avenue, Perth WA 6000 (if attending in person)

 

Scholarship Inclusions:

 

There are 4x 100% scholarships available to those living in WA and working (or volunteering) for not-for-profit organisations in Western Australia. The scholarship is valued at $595 and covers all associated course fees.

Travel and/or accommodation (if necessary) is to be covered by the successful candidates or their NFP organisation.

Scholarships awarded by Tuesday 16 April 2019
Course dates 15 May 2019 OR 11 September 2019

 

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must:

  • live in WA and work / volunteer for a charitable not-for-profit organisation based in Western Australia
  • be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident
  • hold a board / executive / senior / managerial role within their NFP organisation
  • fulfill ASF's general eligibility requirements available on our FAQ's page

Your employing organisation must:

  • be an ACNC registered charity or NFP incorporated association
  • provide a program or service that supports people living in Western Australia
  • not support activities that could be considered discriminatory, political, or religious advocacy or activism in any way

Indigenous Australians are encouraged to apply.

 

Scholar Surveys:

All applicants (regardless of the outcome of their application) may be asked to complete a series of surveys about their expected and realised learnings (once before and on a few occasions after the course). Your survey responses will help us to quantify the impact of our scholarships and will help attract funding for education and training for the NFP sector in the future. Your feedback is extremely valuable to the work we do and by completing these surveys you'll be making an important contribution to the future of ASF and the NFP sector overall.

Selection Criteria
This scholarship may be awarded to an applicant who: is a director of or employed as a senior executive by a charitable not-for-profit organisation in Western Australia; is an Australian citizen or permanent resident; has demonstrated previous achievement, organisational support and demonstrated leadership. Applicants are required to include an endorsement letter from their NFP organisation.
