ASF Congratulates 440 NFP Directors

Australian Scholarships Foundation (ASF) and its partners – Perpetual and the Australian Institute of Company Directors – are proud to congratulate 440 directors of NFP organisations who recently completed specialist NFP chair and director courses around the country.

They join the growing list of over 1200 ASF Scholars serving the Australian not-for-profit sector. The Perpetual Foundation and the JS Love Trust generously funded the scholarships. This is the second year the scholarship program has run, and has been increased after awarding 325 scholarships in 2011. With the ACNC now in operation and a sharp focus on the governance of NFP organisations, this training is in high demand. ASF received nearly 1200 applications for the program this year.

The demand is there, but the budget isn’t. Research undertaken during the inaugural program found over a quarter of attendee organisations have no budget for training and only 1 in 5 set key performance indicators for their boards. ASF and Perpetual are dedicated to strengthening the NFP sector with training and development scholarship opportunities.

“The AICD Not-for Profit Chairman program was insightful, well delivered and extremely valuable. There is significant demand for governance training in the NFP sector, with limited resources available to make it happen. This scholarship goes to the heart of leadership in the boardroom. It is an important and timely initiative given the significant changes that are taking place in the Australian not for profit sector”, said an ASF Scholar who attended in Perth.
