2019 Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership

Sponsored by Perpetual Ltd & Supported by Australian Scholarships Foundation

The Australian-American Fulbright Commission, Perpetual Limited and ASF are pleased to offer the 2019 Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership for a seventh year running. After the superb quality of past year's recipients, we are looking forward to awarding the 2019 scholarship to yet another deserving candidate in the not-for-profit sector.

The Professional Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for an emerging leader in the charitable not-for-profit sector to undertake a program of research and/or professional development in the United States for a period of 3-4 months. Valued at up to $30,000, the scholarship will enable the right candidate to delve into research or personal development that addresses contemporary issues of relevance, innovation, knowledge development, impact on policy and practice in the NFP sector.

In 2014, Tessa Boyd-Caine (CEO of Health Justice Australia) was one of two inaugural recipients of the Professional Scholarship in Non-Profit Leadership. Tessa spent four months in the United States researching issues around how not-for-profit organisations can strengthen and lead the trust and confidence in which the sector is held.

Tessa Boyd-Caine Of her experience, Tessa says, "The opportunity to take six months out from a busy job is rare enough. The opportunity to use that six months to develop a whole new area of expertise; to visit hundreds of colleagues overseas; to engage with challenging ideas and stimulating approaches; to reflect on organisational and political culture;

and to consider new ways of working towards shared goals of social justice, self-determination and community development, is incomparable. The Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Non-profit Leadership gave me that opportunity."
